On the eve of the general strike called by the Prachanda-Madhav faction of NCP on February 4, the faction has staged a torch rally in Chandranigahapur of Rautahat. They chanted slogans demanding the restoration of parliament, the resignation of the prime minister, and of the constitutional commission. There was a minor clash between demonstrators and police after the police tried to interrupt their protests.
The group has stated that they will mobilize a large number of its cadres in the district to make the general strike a success and also said that schools, factories, public sector and transport would be shut down during the general strike, but the examination scheduled earlier would be allowed to run smoothly.
