Ramesh Rawal, a journalist working for Kankrevihar Daily, Naya Patrika Dainik, and Shilapatra.com, was detained and tortured by the police on Tuesday evening. According to the victim, he was beaten by a constable at duty for four hours at the Yerichowk Police station while he was returning to his residence.
However, Police Inspector at the Municipal Police Office, said that they called him for questioning after seeing him walking alone at night due to increasing incidents of theft in Birendranagar. Federation of Journalists has demanded legal action against the security personnel involved in the beating and to create an environment for independent and fearless journalism by issuing a press release.
