Province 1, Sunsari, Itahari
The victim's relatives staged a protest by burning tires in front of the Area Police Office, Itahari, on April 12 alleging police of trying to save the accused driver convicted of killing an old man in a tripper accident. 72-year-old Karna Bahadur Gurung of Gangamarg in Itahari-1 died on the spot when he was hit by a tipper on the way to Dharan on April 11.
According to eyewitnesses, the tipper initially hit Gurung's right leg and they claim that the driver pushed the tipper back three times and killed him even when he was asking for help. Gurung, who retired from the Indian Army, was identified on the basis of his mobile phone and identity card.
