Jhapa/July 11 Police have arrested Umanath Gahatraj (Bishwakarma), 27, on July 11 on charge of murdering his wife Manju Gahate, 23, of Kankai Municipality-7. According to the police, Manju died following beating by her husband on the night of July 10. The accused had told locals on July 11 morning that she died of heart attack. He had gathered locals and taken her body to Kankai river for her final rites. A team from Police post Surunga reached the site and took her body in control after her family reported Area Police Office Birtamod regarding her suspicious death. Police had taken her body at the Mechi Zonal Hospital Bhadrapur for autopsy. Inspector Bhupendra Giri of the APO Birtamod said that Umanath confessed of beating his wife to death after she refused to have sex with him. The accused tried to conceal the incident telling the locals she died of heart attack, Inspector Giri said. Family of the deceased performed her final rites after post-mortem on July 11. Investigation has begun after keeping the accused in custody of APO Birtamod, police said.
