Khotang/July 15 A few cadres of NC Khotang have threatened Kedar Magar, the reporter for national daily Naya Patrika and Uttam Chaulagain, the newsreader at local Halesi Radio. A news report on the local women gifting lungi, a sarong-like dress, to NC district chairperson was published in Naya Patrika on July 14. The NC Mahasamiti member Rabi Prakash Rai, regional chairperson of constituency no. 2, Tirtha Bhattarai and district member Prem Kumar Rai had threatened them for publishing the news. FNJ Khotang issued a statement on July 15 condemning the incident. The statement said that the threats had impinged the journalists’ right to freedom of expression. FNJ Khotang chairperson Daman Rai and secretary Ujir Karki said in the statement also urged the NC cadres to complain in due process if they are not happy with the news. Magar said he was told on July 14 that he was in their vigilance for writing the news against them while Chaulagain was warned on July 15 of refraining of airing any news related to them without consultation with NC cadres. The journalists also handed over a memorandum to the CDO Govind Sapkota demanding action against the accused. D
