With just six days to go before the start of the General Convention, the Congress' active membership dispute has reached its peak. Although the active membership investigation committee has completed the work of investigating the active membership in almost all places, the disputes in Bara and Saptari of Province 2 have spread to the party's central office. After the investigation committee handed the membership details to the Central Working Committee, without settling the disputes, the establishment and other parties staged a sit-in at the party office, Sanepa.
For the past 12 days, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel's supporters have been holding sit-ins demanding that the active membership from the district should not be recognized. Since July 22, the Deuba supporters started a counter-sit-in at the party office demanding approval of all the names recommended by the district. Chandra Mohan Yadav, son of former president Ram Baran Yadav, has been on strike for six days demanding not to approve the recommendation from the district.
