Press Chautari Nepal, Makwanapur has drawn its attention towards the indecent treatment meted out to journalists by Bagmati Pradesh Dairy Development Board Hetauda Director Dr. Sulochana Shrestha.
In a press release issued on Tuesday evening, Press Chautari Nepal Makwanpur, Branch Coordinator Dharmendra Dahal and Co-Coordinator Pushparaj Adhikari said that they were concerned by the mistreatment on journalists Saroj Poudel and Nisha Gurugn of Pahilopost dot com.
‘Challenging the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the press and the right to information, the director of the board, Dr. Shrestha's harassment of journalists is an abuse of the media as a whole and of journalists. We strongly demand the state government, Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives to take strict action against Shrestha including the investigation of the incident. Press Chautari Nepal Makwanpur has taken this as a direct interference on the natural right of independent journalists involved in informing the general public. It is unacceptable to threaten journalists who are still risking their lives when the Covid-19 is still at risk, ”the statement said.
