Police arrested three persons from Rupandehi and one from Tanahun on the charge of involvement in the murder of 25-year-old Taufiq Ahmed Pathan, an Indian national and truck driver of a vehicle bearing Indian plate number plate UP 53 AT 0141 in Rupandehi. . Police made the four accused public in a press meet held on August 10. The accused are identified as Saddam Kujda alias Ali, 30, of Siddharthnagar Municipality-6, Rizwan Ali Musalman, 27, of the same place, Mahesh Kahar, 28, and Sunil Poudel, 27, of Tanahu Shuklagandi Municipality-10. According to police, the accused even looted food materials worth 1.8 million from the driver.
The body of the driver was found floating in the river at Siddharthnagar Municipality-13 on August 4. Kujda and Rizwan hit Tawfiq on the head with bricks seven or eight times. After his death, all three threw him into the river. According to the details of the incident, a trader supplying rice to Nepal from India had sent rice worth Rs 1.8 million to a trader named Nandan Gupta in Kathmandu.
