Domestic Violence Victim Seeks Divorce

A case for divorce has been filed by Anita Karki, 19, of Kunti Devi VDC-5 at the District Court Okhaldhunga on July 26. Advocate Guru Bahadur Basnet filed the case on behalf Karki who was beaten and expelled from home by her husband Santosh Shrestha. The victim, who was married to Santosh two years ago, was beaten and deprived from food by her husband. She had been staying at her maternal home in Ratmate after she she expelled from house. The victim had registered a complaint at the Women and Children Office on June 20 seeking help to make citizenship and create an environment for her to stay at home or get her property share. The WCO had sent the original copy of the complaint to the District Police Office the same day asking to take action. Advocate Basnet said that the victim would get justice soon as the case for divorce had been registered after filing her marriage registration.
