Dalit deprived of access to clean drinking water in Dadeldhura

2021-08-14

Sudurpashchim, Dadeldhura, Amargadhi, Ward 11

People of the Dalit community in Litiri village of Amargadhi Municipality-11 have been deprived of access to safe drinking water for a long time.  The village has 40 Dalit households. The local Dalit community alleged that they have been forced to drink dirty water from wells for a long time due to a lack of initiative by the local, state and federal governments.

Jasudevi Sarki, a local, complained that the people of the Dalit community in the village were facing problems in sanitation due to the lack of adequate water in their community. Local Mohan Sarki complained that the problem arose due to the non-availability of water in the taps as the taps were connected without a detailed study of the drinking water project.

Lack of clean drinking water is also affecting the health of the Dalit community in the region. Praveen Sarki, a local, complained that even though pure water is essential for health, they are not able to consume even ordinary water as required.
