Muslim Union stage sit-in demanding inclusive quota in the General Convention delegates

2021-09-08

The Nepal Muslim Union (NMU) staged a sit-in at the party office in Sanepa demanding inclusion in the Nepali Congress. The sit-in protest was led by Abdul Sattar, chairperson of the Nepal Muslim Union. At the party's 14th general convention, the inclusive proportional representation system in the legislature was opposed by cutting the reserved seats against the legislature on the basis of population in the election directory.

The inclusive quota has not been implemented at other levels including the state and central general convention delegates even though it was decided that a representative would come from the ward after the protest. NMU staged a sit-in demanding the removal of at least one delegate from each state constituency and federal constituency. The central member of the Nepali Congress and former minister Farmullah Mansur, vice president of the association Atabul Mansuri, Abdul Jabbar (Munna) and other central office bearers and members were present in the protest.
