A local resident, Bastabma Lamichanne, set the ward office on fire on September 22. According to Gangaram Sunar, the ward chairperson of Surkhet Birendranagar Municipality ward no.1, Lamichanne called him and threatened to set fire to the office for not showing up on time while he was in Kathmandu for a conference. After 10 minutes, the ward chairperson received another call informing him that the ward office had been set on fire with petrol, causing damage to the chairs, sofas, closets, and documents contained within. According to sources, Lamichanne had been in an aggressive mood since the morning and was carrying a deadly weapon, claiming he would physically assault people in the ward office. The accused has not yet been arrested.
