2021-11-09

November 9: Dhangarh. Harka Bahadur Rawal, a resident of Chisapani in Kailali, was staying with his family members by closing the shutter of the hotel on November 7. Around 8.30 am, a stranger tried to enter through the back door. Rawal tried to stop them saying that the hotel was closed but he forced them to go inside. According to Rawal, he entered the hotel insulting him. At the same time, he said that he is a Major in the Nepal Army and used threatening language.

Although Rawal had no prior acquaintance with him, he said that it was only after entering the hotel that he learned that it was Major Ashok Jung Shahi of the Nepal Army’s Far-West Training School, Gorangay. According to the local people, the Major had returned to the barracks from there and the armed soldiers had reached Chisapani market again in the night in a private vehicle.

“He returned to the barracks to look after the operator of the Look Hotel in Chisapani. He returned to the barracks in a private vehicle with armed soldiers,” said a local. After that, a mob of angry locals attacked him and vandalized his vehicle. After this, the police arrested Major Shahi.

Police handed over to the army. Biswa Adhikari, chief superintendent of police (SP) of the district police office, Kailali, also said that there was a dispute after Major Shahi of the Nepal Army reached Chisapani after drinking alcohol on November 7.

Victims locals said that they attacked Shahi and injured him. Stating that Shahi was hit on the head by a stone thrown by a local, the superintendent of police said that he was handed over to the army after treatment.

On the other hand, Major Shahi has claimed that there was only a general debate. ‘Who are you, hotel manager? “I entered by giving my identity,” Shahi claimed with the news online. “There were also friends I knew.” There is only general debate. It’s not a big deal.
