Nepali Congress cadres padlock district chairperson's office in Chitwan protesting decision to award candidacy for mayor of Bharatpur to Maoist Centre

Party cadres of the Nepali Congress (NC) padlocked the office of the party's district chairperson on April 24, after the leaders were denied the candidacy for the mayoral election. 

After the ruling coalition decided to give the mayor of Bharatpur to CPN (Maoist Centre), disgruntled local leaders and cadres of NC organized demonstration. Central leaders Tek Prasad Gurung, Dinesh Koirala, outgoing president Jit Narayan Shrestha, former MP Bhim Bahadur Shrestha, Jagannath Poudel, former president Krishnalal Sapkota, former district president of Tarun Dal Shabmu Aryal and former registrar of Agriculture and Forest University Shrikant Ghimire addressed the demonstration. 

The demonstrators claimed that the candidacy of the mayor of Bharatpur should be given to Nepali Congress. They further objected to the decision of the central leaders and urged them to rectify the situation.
