Four cadres of the Nepali Congress (NC) including ward representative were seriously injured after being beaten by CPN (Maoist Center) cadres in Balefi Rural municipality-5 of Sindhupalchowk on May 5 night. The injured have been identified as NC ward representative Kumar Tamang, cadres Khadga Bahadur Tamang, Bayan Tamang, and Subash Tamang. Kumar sustained broken ribs in the attack while the other three sustained injuries and cuts on their back, hand and head, according to NC's Balefi Rural Municipality Chairperson Ram Kumar Tamang. The injured were sent for at Sindhu Sadabahar hospital in Khadichaur Bazar of Balefi Rural Municipality.
DSP Dakshya Kumar Basnet of District Police Office Sindhupalchowk stated that police summoned both parties for investigation into the incident and was prepared to prevent such incidents from happening again.
According to Kumar, Maoist Center's Balefi Rural Municipality Ward 5 member candidate Ram Bahadur Tamang who was accompanied by 20 YCL (Youth Communist League) cadres called the four NC cadres and threatened not to conduct election campaign in the area claiming that area was Maoist stronghold which led to a dispute. The Maoist cadres attacked NC cadres with bottles, stones, batons, and other items. Maoist Center's district chairperson Govinda Parajuli claimed that a minor scuffle had occurred regarding election code of conduct.
