Representatives of CPN (Unified Socialist), CPN-UML, and Nepali Congress padlocked the vote counting site in Ishanath municipality of Rautahat on May 18, after election officers made an error while announcing the results of the election of Ishnath municipality-3, on May 17 night. Lokatantrik Samajwadi Party (LoSaPa) claimed that the panel including the ward chairperson of LoSaPa Ram Chandra Raut won all seats in that ward. The locals claimed that the electoral staffs made an error while announcing the result for Dalit woman member candidate. Instead of the candidate who won the election election staffs reportedly announced the name of another person as the winning candidate.
A large number of locals gathered outside the vote counting site. Election officer Krishna Bahadur Upreti admitted that there was a technical error in the case of Dalit woman members while announcing the results. According to Upreti, the dispute escalated after mistakes were made in writing the results of Kaushalya Devi, a candidate for the post of Dalit woman member of LoSaPa, and Gayatri Devi, a CPN-UML candidate.
A team of security officials including Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Shahi reached Ishnath from the district to settle the dispute. However, the dispute has not been resolved yet. LoSaPa demanded to resume the counting of votes immediately.
