Tharuhat Kochila United struggle committee staged a demonstration in front of the provincial assembly on August 2, demanding to name province-1 as Tharuhat and Kochila in Biratnagar during the meeting of the current annual session of the provincial assembly.

After Chief Minister Rajendra Rai expressed that there will be conflict in the country if there was no Kirant Province, on August 2, Madheshis, Tharu and Rajvanshi of Udayapur, Sunsari, Morang, and Jhapa, who constitute two-thirds of the population of the province, demanded to give the province a name that reflects their identity.

The coordinator of the committee, Bhagwat Chaudhary, said that the demonstration was peaceful to pressure naming the province based on the identity of the Tharu and Rajvanshi communities, which have a long history. He said that they are again agitating for the protection of caste and land.
