Relatives of 33-year-old Jibachhidevi of Mirchaiya Municipality-1 in Siraha have accused the police of subjecting her to extreme physical and mental torture at detention. Jibachhidevi was taken into custody for the investigation into the murder of her mother-in-law Gubadi devi Sah Haluwai who was found dead on October 1. Police reportedly beath Jibachhidevi with pipe on various parts of her body and tortured her with electric current. The incident became public after she was admitted to Mirchaiya hospital for treatment. The victim reported that police even stithched her lips with stapler and forced her to name her father-in-law as the perpetrator of the murder. Locals staged protests against the police after the incident became public which resulted in a clash between the locals and police. Jibachhidevi was released from the custody on October 17.
