Saptari/October 28 Area Police Office, Kanchanpur has arrested three men on charge of the murder of Ranjan Kumari Mahato, 13, of Patharitol in Pipra Purba of Kanchanpur Municipality. The men including her father Mohan Mahato, 50, and maternal uncles Dharshan Mahato, 45, and Pulakit Mahato, 35, of the same place were arrested on October 21. The District Court has extended their custodial period by 10 days on October 27. They were taken to the Office of the District Attorney in Rajbiraj on October 27. According to the police, Ranjan Kumari was beaten to death by the accused in the night of October 13 and then thrown in the River Triyuga. The body has not yet been recovered. Inspector at the Kanchanpur APO said that they were being held at APO after special investigation. It is learnt that Ranjan Kumari had left home on October 11 after being beaten by her guardians and took refuge at her relative Kalawati Mahato’s place in Kanchanpur VDC-3. She was brought back by the accused on October 12. Police investigation revealed that she died to the beatings by the accused who were upset at her decision to leave home. The neighbors became suspicious and began questioning them about her whereabouts on October 19 leading to their arrest two days later. M
