Minister directs to punish attackers who injured a Journalist.

Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal has directed local administration in Chitwan District to take action against the culprits who were involved in attacking Narayan Prasad Adhikari, a reporter for Rashtriya Samachar Samiti. An unidentified group had attacked Adhikari with a sharp weapon near his house on November 20. Minister Rijal reached the injured Adhikari's house in the district and said that the attack on the journalists was an attack on press freedom and freedom of expression. He wished for the speedy recovery of the journalist Adhikari and urged other media persons to help local administration providing any information they have in this connection. Minister Rijal also expressed dissatisfaction over the delayed investigation process. He further said that the government is serious about the security of journalists. The Ministry of Information is consulting the Finance Ministry for the budget in this regard, he added. Acting Chairman at Chitwan chapter of the Nepal Press Union (NPU), Purna Sharma submitted a memorandum to the Minister on the occasion. Injured Adhikari is the NPU Chitwan President. Speaking on a different note, Minister Rijal said that the opposition parties were obstructing the constitution drafting process.
