Need of open prison stressed

 A joint team of the task force of Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Human Rights, CDO, NHRC, INSEC and FNJ has monitored Nepalgunj Prison on January 4. Taking to the journalists after the monitoring visit, task force coordinator Panchkarna Rai said that the condition of most of the prisons of the country was similar while stressing on the need of the open prison. He added that his team would make recommendations to improve the conditions of the prisons across the country. Banke CDO Bed Prakash Lekhak added that flourishing crimes along with development had created problems in the prison. He pledged that he would initiate step at local level to resolve the issues related to the prisons. INSEC Mid-Western Regional Coordinator Bhola Mahat said that delayed decisions were injustice to the inmates. NHRC’s Ramesh Kharel said that NHRC recommendations should be implemented to improve the conditions of the prisons. Jailor Shyam Lamichhane added that the changes in the country have not reflected in the national prison system. Nepalgunj Prison with the capacity of 250 inmates, currently has 556 including 42 female inmates, six dependents children and 508 male inmates. B
