2015-01-07

Kirant Janabadi Workers’ Party (KJWP), an underground outfit active in the eastern hilly districts for an autonomous Kirant state, today submitted weapons to the government. At a programme held at Khotang District Administration Office, KJWP handed over three rifles to Peace and Reconstruction Minister Narahari Acharya through Khotang CDO Govind Sapkota. The underground outfit said it would submit other weapons in the days to come. The KJWP dialogue team led by Biru Kiranti also submitted a memorandum to the government demanding that it fulfill the agreements reached with them in the previous talks. In the memorandum, KJWP has demanded the release of its cadres, scrapping of cases against them and compensation to the families of workers’ activists killed by the government. KJWP Coordinator Biru Kiranti said his group had shunned violence and was ready to participate in peaceful politics. “We have handed over weapons to the government as per the agreement reached with it. Our party will not be involved in armed conflict in the days ahead,” Kiranti pledged. Unified CPN-Maoist Khotang Chairman Prithvi Kiranti urged KJWP leaders and cadres to join hands for development of the district. After submitting the weapons, Kirant Janabadi Workers’ Party central Chairperson Mina Khumbu Kiranti told a press meet that was organised in the district headquarters Diktel that her party would peacefully fight in every way for an autonomous Kirant state .
