Village tense after one dead in NC-UML clash

 BARA, JAN 15 - Tension gripped Amarpatti VDC of Bara district on Wednesday after a CPN-UML cadre died and twelve others injured in a clash between cadres of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. The two sides aligned to the ruling parties clashed over selection of project in the village council. The animosity between cadres of the two parties has grown so bitter that they start threatening, misbehaving or pouncing the moment they see the cadres of rival side. Even the mobilisation of police has not been able to contain the situation. One Avatar Prasad Yadav, 38, of the Amarpatti village, who sustained serious injury in his head during the clash, died in course of treatment at National Medical College in Birgunj, Parsa. He was hit by a bamboo stick. The clash erupted during the council meeting of VDC following row over project selection that had began three days ago. Police have arrested six people for investigation in connection with the incident. The villagers are horror-stricken following the clash. Cattle herders have not been able to return their home for three days because of fear. General public, women and children are trying to save their lives. The arguments between the two sides in the name development turned into a serious clash, police SP Lokendra Bahadur Malla said. Security personnel have been mobilised to prevent the situation from deteriorating further, he informed.
