The party office of UML, situated at Madannagar in Rajbiraj Municipality has been torched at around 2.30 pm during the bandh called by UCPN-M, CPN-M, and Madeshi Morcha alliances on January 20.
The fire destroyed important party documents, over 100 chairs, four tables, two laptops, two cupboards, and one each of printer and scanner, party secretary Shambhu Yadav said.
The cadres of Youth Association, Nepal chanted slogans against the act of arson. The site was monitored by a team of human rights activists including the NHRC Janakpur team.
The bandh callers also distributed Kantipur and The Kathmandu Dailies from the vehicle transporting them in Rajbiraj Municipality-1 and held the motorcycle used for Nagarik daily reporter Jitendra Jha for some times. The demonstrators patrolling the town enforcing bandh vandalized the office of administration officer at the District Administration Office in the afternoon.
UML and NC issued separate statements on January 20 condemning the arson at the UML Party office. Urging for no repetition of the anarchist act, they have asked for maintaining peaceful protest and social harmony.
