38-year-old Bel Kumari Pariyar and her two sons Bishal and Bishwas Kunwar have been denied a chance to perform her husband and [their] father’s final rites. Bel Kumari, originally from Rupakot VDC-4, Kaski was living in Shandhikarka on Arghakhachi. Her 44-year-old husbandBishnu Bahadur Kunwar died after which Bel Kumari prepared the mourning period but her brother-in-law Hari Bahadur Khadka stopped her saying she had to perform rites in a nearby inn. She added that Hari Bahadur said that she could not join the others as she was told that she was [from] Dalit community. She and her husband got married in 2000 without family approval.
