National Human Rights Commission has stated that the police resorted to violence in the attempt to quell the demonstration held in Gaur to protest the government decision to shift some government offices to Chandranigahapur in Rautahat. NHRC spokesperson Mohana Ansari further stated that police had beaten up civilians entering their homes, acted violently against the journalists and human rights monitors and using the terms derogatory towards some communities and women. The statement issued by the NHRC on April 5 informed that the demonstrators were found involved in pelting stones on the police and attempt to torch police vehicle and there were casualties at both sides. The incident when the demonstrators tried to set an APF on fire and that when the van tried to back, it hit Ram Ashish Thakur, 50, of Gaur Municipality-10 killing him instantly. Meanwhile, the NHRC called on Home Secretary, Secretary of the Office of PM and Council of Ministers, Nepal Police’s IG and APF’s IG on April 5 to discuss the situation.
