The firing took place at Yagyapuri in Bharatpur at 2.30 Wednesday morning. According to Chitwan Police Chief SP Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, the shooter has been arrested. Police guessed the firing might have taken place to serve the purpose of burglary. Police Chief Thapa said a person who sustained serious injury after gunfire is undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College. Police said that detailed information about the incident would be imparted at a press conference scheduled for 11.00 am today.
Updated...... A youth was injured in a firing in Yagyapuri area of Bharatpur yesterday night. Locals here have started to patrol the area in the wake of rising cases of theft in Chitwan. Following the massive earthquake of April 25, cases of theft have gone up in Bharatpur and surrounding areas. The injured has been identified as 23-year-old Rajan Khadka said SP Sahakul Bahadur Thapa of District Police Office, Chitwan. Khadka sustained critical injury in his chest and has been receiving treatment at Chitwan Medical College. A bullet shell is said to have pierced through his chest which is yet to be removed. Doctors said that a surgery was needed to take the bullet out and it could be done later. A police team deployed from the DPO nabbed 25-year-old Mani Prasad Kafle of Daldale of Nawalparasi on suspicion of his involvement in the firing. He was made public today. Police seized a pistol from Kafle. “Further investigation into the case is underway,” said SP Thapa. Yagyapuri locals have demanded security from the DPO. They accused police of not responding to their repeated requests to provide security in the locality. The locals have been staying in the open due to continuous aftershocks.
