2015-06-16

Bagmati, Lalitpur, Mahalaxmi

A group of teachers have allegedly thrashed their colleague Bakhat Bahadur Kathet leaving him seriously injured on Monday morning. According to Kathet, Pemu Basnet, Sunita Bista, Pramila Baniya and others from a government school, Mahendra Adarsha Higher Secondary School, Imadol, where Kathet is also a teacher, beat him up for mentioning their names in a book published by him. Kathet published "Mattiyeko Loktantra," a book related to women empowerment last December. He informed me that one of the female staff punched him as he entered the office at around 10 am. Later three others joined her after he fell down and started kicking him. "Some of the women teachers were not happy that I have mentioned their names in my book but I was ready to face legal action if they felt defamed," Kathet told Republica over the phone. Kathet said the women were unhappy that he had included an anecdote in which he mentions that the women had supported some misdemeanour of the school's headmaster. "This is not an attack on me, this is an attack on literature," Kathet remarked. On the other hand, principal of the school Ek Bahadur Bhandari alleged that Kathet has exaggerated the scenario of the meeting in his book. "I have been told that Kathet first pushed one of the female teachers after an argument over the contents of the book and later the scene turned violent," informed Bhandari. The teachers involved in the case were not available for comments. Kathet, who is said to be seriously injured, have been taken to Kist Medical College for treatment. The police have informed that they are carrying out an investigation into the case.
