Youth wings of various civil society organisations and women activists staged a protest on Friday to exert pressure on the Constituent Assembly (CA)’s Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee to amend the citizenship draft provision. The youths advocating for citizenship through mother formed a human chain from Maitighar to Baneshwor in a symbolic protest against the proposed provision, which requires both parents to be Nepali citizen for an individual to acquire citizenship. “We will continue to put pressure on the leaders to change the provision,” said Subin Mulmi, coordinator of the Youth Network of Civil Society. According to the campaigner, CA Drafting Committee has agreed on a provision which denies citizenship in the name of the mother.
