Areas around the Nepal-India border in Darchula district remained tense on Tuesday due to the Lipulek March-pass and gathering performed by the cadres of Baidhya Maoist affiliated student wing All Nepal National Independent Students Union –Revolutionary.
The Indian side deployed additional security personnel in Kalapani in the view of the scheduled protest by the Maoist students. Ordinary people have faced difficulty after the Indian security men also tightened the checking in the bridge that connects the district headquarter Khalanga with India. 10 cadres of the Maoist student wing who were preparing to go to Lipulek were arrested from the Indian market town Dharchula in the border area. The arrested have been identified as Khagendra Kandel, Sandip Gautam, Shiva Gautam, Sushil Basnet, Dinesh Jammarkattel, Sudarshan Paudel, Pujan Khanal, Mohan Acharya, and Ankit Tiwari.
Chairman of the student wing Ratna Dhakal said that the campaign was aimed at making India and China aware that Lipulek belongs to Nepal and it was not directed at the Indian citizens in any way.
