The Lumbini Development Trust Employees' Union launched an agitation in protest against the appointment of new employees on Sunday. Some 200 employees staged a sit-in protest before the Trust’s headquarters against the appointment of new staff. The protesting employees prohibited the office-bearer's entrance into the office as well. The Union accused the authority of appointing new employees by neglecting old employees. Administrative works were obstructed due to the agitation. The Union has padlocked the museum and the offices of the Trust office-bearers. According to the Union, it was compelled to launch an agitation after the management did not pay any attention to their demands related to rights, welfare, and facilities of employees put forth time and again. Union Chairman Dhruba Narayan Pandey said that they launched the agitation after the management side appointed employees without following the due process. The Union put forth eight-point demand including scrapping the latest appointment of employees, special promotion of old employees, internal promotion, initiating open and limited competition exam process immediately, among others. Pandey said that they would continue the general strike and padlocking from today until their demands were addressed.
