Villagers surrounded APF camp for 6 hours in Western Nawalparasi

2015-08-16

Tension escalated in Parasi after villagers surrounded an Armed Police Force (APF)  based camp in Bilaspur of the district and started throwing stones demanding the removal of the Border Security Office from their village. The villagers resorted to violence after an APF constable severely beat up a 23-year-old farmer Munna Kahar on Sunday night, accusing him of being a protestor. Kahar is receiving treatment at the hospital. People from various villages gathered around the APF camp, which lies 6 km away from the district headquarters, and started the demonstration. They also burnt a motorcycle belonging to APF. Meanwhile, the APF fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesting villagers, including women, the elderly, and children. The six-hour-long struggle resulted in the injury of three APF personnel and four villagers. A Nepal Police team reached the area and intervened to take the situation under control, said Manoj Harijan, coordinator of the Tarai Human Rights protection alliance.
