2015-08-18

Province 1, Morang, Biratnagar, Ward 2

The family of a youth who married the girl of so-called higher caste has complained about receiving threats from the girl's family saying that they'd have the family arrested. The youth's sister and brother-in-law were threatened by the girl's father and relatives. 22 years old Sanjib Ghanati Rajghat-8 had eloped with Alisha Khatri of Sijuwa, Damrabhatti two weeks ago. However, the girl's family has filed a complaint against boy's sister Khyam Kumari and brother-in-law Ram Bahadur for trafficking. Police arrested the sister and brother-in-law and kept them in custody for 2 days. Police released them on Tuesday after facing criticism from all sides. Even then the girl's family has threatened to take the case further if the boy's sister and brother-in-law did not find the where-about of the girl and present her before her parents within a week. The boy's family has complained that the girl's family are mentally torturing them in accomplice with the police. Inspector Baburam Pokhrel of Area Police Office Sijuwa said that although the girl's parents had indirectly sought police's help in finding the where-about of the girl no complaint had been registered in the police. He also clarified that police would not take any case against the boy's family. Program Coordinator of Dalit Welfare Organization Morang Amar Baraili and Kiran Baraili from National Dalit Commission who had gone to Sijuwa to find the details of the incident reported that they were insulted by dozens of villagers supporting the girl's family.
