Biratnagar tense, police fire shots in the air

Police opened five rounds of fire in air after demonstrators attempted to set ablaze police personnel on duty in a police station in Mahabir chowk, Rani, the border point with India. The agitation led by the United Democratic Madhesi Front against the constitution drafting process has turned Biratnagar increasingly tense in the recent days. Police spokesperson of Morang district, DSP Pramod Kharel informed that the demonstrators held the police personnel on duty at the Materuwa station and tried to set fire on them. Hundreds of protesters also surrounded the police station at 10 am. DSP Kharel informed that a large number of security force including personnel of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed in Mahabir chowk.
