Birgunj customs agents facing threat from agitators in Birgunj

Most of the agents at customs office in Birgunj have halted their work after getting threats from agitating morcha cadres from Monday. According to chairman of customs agent association Bijay Sah 92 agents are affiliated with the customs office in Birgunj at present. The customs agents are in dilemma after the customs office on the other hand have threatened to seize their license if they halted their work. Informing about being threatened by some agitators to stop work chairman Shah said "Recently I have received calls from many people to stop our work, they have threatened to shoot me dead if I did not listen to them. They are local leaders of the Madhesi parties." He also lamented that in direct contrast to agitators demand to halt work the customs office has pressured them to continue their work. The customs office has threatened to seize agent's license if they did not resume their work. Industrialists and entrepreneurs have been forced to hire agents from outside after local agents halted their service in the face of constant threats from agitators.
