The policemen of Ranke Police Station have beaten up Ram Kumar Rai, 43, a worker of Phalaincha VDC-9 and living temporarily in Ranke Bazar in the bordering area of Panchthar and Ilam. Rai said that police constables Mingma Sherpa and head constable Ram Dinesh Mahato beat him. Dr Umesh Sah who is attending Rai said that the extent of injuries would be known after seeing his X-ray report. When asked, ASI Bimal Upreti of the police station claimed that Rai had assaulted the policemen in uniform who tried to arrest him after a complaint filed by a local woman that he had misbehaved with her. However, locals claimed that Rai was beaten in the middle of the road. District Police Office's Inspector Govinda Jha said that the police were investigating the case and action would be taken if anyone is found guilty.
