Three girls aged 14 along with their parents hailing from Koldada, Birendranagar Municipality-20 have been arrested by police from their respective houses on November 3 on the charges of child marriage.
According to Prem Prasad Acharya, Officer at District Child Welfare Committee, the parents of those girls are Dilmaya Sunar, Rukmi Rawat, and Dhirbahadur Sunar. All of them have been arrested and are kept in the District Police office.
Police claimed that the three girls and their parents were caught after the coordination with District Child Welfare Society, Awaz, CWIN, Organization for Marginalized Women, Care Nepal, and its associates along with the District Police office of Surkhet.
Officer of District Child Welfare, Mr. Acharya says that after a tip-off from Citizen Awareness Center, Koldada inspected the houses of those girls. They found them to have been married after the consent between the two parties/ families. Then the parents belonging to those girls were caught. Boys of those girls have been out of the district looking for work and Police have been searching for those boys.
Although a case has not been found or filed for child marriage in concerned agencies, cases of child marriage have still not declined in the village area, as per District Child Awareness Center, Surkhet.
