YAN Strike Affects Life Nationwide

Nationwide four-hour strike called by UML affiliated Youth Association Nepal (YAN) from 6 to 10 am demanding resignation of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and formation of a national consensus government has affected normal life in various districts on August 7.

 

The bandh had its effect to all three districts Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur in the Valley. No vehicles plied during the badh hours while shops and markets remained closed. The agitators had stopped vehicles plying to different destinations on the way while morning classes in schools, higher secondary schools and colleges were disrupted due to the bandh in the Valley.

In Kaski, the agitators vandalized an Indian jeep plated GJ 15 BB 2387 while they mistreated journalists Ramesh Paudel, Shiromani Baral and Bhimdatta Subedi, who were on a bike plated Ga 6 Pa 4386 alleging them of defying the bandh.

 

In Tanahu, the bandh had its effect in Damuli, Khairenitar, Daulegauda, Dumre and Aanbukhaireni. In Arghakanchi, the agitators had seized key of three motorbike and they returned the keys to their respective owners after the strike was revoked. The bandh also affected normal life in Myagdi, Parvat, Gulmi, Nawalparasi and Rupandehi in the western region.

 

The bandh affected life in various districts including Dang in the mid-western region. The bandh affected normal life in Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, Bhaluwang and Bijauri.

 

YAN called bandh affected normal life in Chitwan district of the central development region. Vehicles plying to long and short routes to and from the district stayed off the road during the bandh hours in Chitwan.

 

The four hour bandh also affected normal life in Dhankuta in the eastern region. Passengers heading to different places were stranded on way as vehicles did not ply during the bandh hours today.

 

In Jhapa, over a dozen YAN cadres were injured when police rained batons while they were staying a torch rally in MechinagarN.P.10 in the evening on August 6. YAN central member Raju Karki received injuries to his head and YAN cadres Dipendra Dahal, Hari Ojha, Bishnu Thapa, Roshan Agrawal, Bhupal Siwakoti, Rahul Sah, Suman Thapa, Chetan Paudel, Milan Rai among others were injured in the baton charge. All the injured are undergoing treatment in local health institutions.

 

DSP at district police office said police constable Jilani Hussein was injured when the agitators pelted stones to police. Hussein is undergoing treatment at AMDA Hospital in Dhulabari, police said.
