Mahato injured in clash with police at Jogbani border

Cadres of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha clashed with police at Biratnagar-Jogbani border point on Saturday. Madhesi leader Rajendra Mahato was injured in the scuffle. The clash ensued when police tried to stop Mahato from taking part in a sit-in program organized to block the entry of goods through the border point. Mahato, some party leaders, and Morcha cadres entered the Dasgaja area via India to organize a sit-in near the Customs Office. Police tried to remove them from their spot which started the clash. Morcha cadres than entered into Indian territory and threw stones at police towards the Nepali side of the border. Police also fired tear gas shells and baton-charged to quell any untoward situation. Following his injury to his head and leg, leader Mahato entered into Jogbani. Mahato was admitted to Golden Hospital ICU due to excessive bleeding in Biratnagar. Biratnagar-Jogbani border supplies halted Goods and fuel entering through the Biratnagar-Jogbani customs have been halted following the clash between the Morcha cadres and police on Saturday. Some 125 freight trucks had entered through this border point before the scuffle today. Rajendra Mahato and his cadres clashed with police when police tried to evacuate them from their sit-in spot in Dashgaja border point.
