Three journos assaulted by police, clash between police and protestors

Police have assaulted three journalists after taking them in control on December 28 on the charge of taking photographs of the clash between Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and police near Janaki Police Post on December 28. Editor of Abhilam Daily Ram Hridaya Yadav, 21, Correspondent of Apan Television Ricki Sah, 22, and Cameraman Rakesh Mishra, 25 was assaulted by police. The journalists were beaten on the charge of only taking pictures of policemen during the clash. The journalists said that Ram Hridaya suffered the injury in his neck while Sah and Mishra sustained injuries in various parts of their bodies. The injured received treatment at Janakpur Zonal Hospital. The three journalists taken in control by police were released following pressure from the Federation of Nepali Journalists Dhanusha chapter. The clash took place after protestors staged a demonstration in Janakpur demanding released of eight protestors arrested on December 27. More than 15 protestors and four policemen have been injured in the clash. Janakpur Zonal Hospital has referred two seriously injured Ram Chandra Mukhiya and Bikash Bhandari to hospitals outside the district. Police fired 15 tear gas canisters and five rounds in air in an effort to calm the situation.
