Police have arrested a shaman on March 8 on the charges of pouring hot water over a woman suffering from paralyzes on the pretext of curing her. Kamal Chhetri, 52, of Koilabas VDC-1 poured boiling water over 60-year-old Tumsara Sunar of Rupakot in Hasipur-1 on February 28. Tumsara suffered burn injuries from head to toe. The elder daughter of the victim Damanta BK had taken her to shaman Chhetri after he assured them to cure her. Tumsara had been suffering from paralyzes for the last 20 years. The incident was concealed as the shaman promised to bear the expenses of the treatment of the victim. Tumsara was referred to Palpa Mission Hospital after her treatment was not possible in Rapti Sub-regional Hospital in Ghorahi. The incident came to light after the victim arrived at the hospital for treatment on March 8. According to SP Kuber Kadayat of the District Police Office, the accused has been arrested and further investigation into the incident is ongoing. The victim was living alone for the last five years. Her three daughters have been married. She has sought help for treatment citing her weak financial condition.
