Locals attack police office, police open firing in Kaski

Police open fired in the air and fired tear gas canisters after locals tried to vandalize Area Police Office Luham on March 10. Nine persons were arrested in connection with the incident. The locals hurled stones at the police officers over the issue of death of 25-year-old Nirmala BK of Pokhari in Tribeni VDC-7. Nirmala was found dead hanging inside the toilet of her room on the night of March 6. The locals claimed that Nirmala was killed. Police fired two rounds of tear gas shells, four rounds of shotguns, and two live rounds in the air. Police constable Khadak Sunar and Dipendra Shrestha were injured when attacked by stones. ASI Surendra Gautam of APO Luham said that glasses of the building of police office were broken by the locals. Those arrested for vandalism are Gyan Bahadur BK of Jhimpe, Lal Bahadur Nepali, Binod BK, Tulsi BK, Gauri Reule, Pabitra BK, Shova Sharma Dangi, Sushila BK and Hima BK of Tribeni VDC-7. Relatives of Nirmala filed complaints against four persons on March 9 on the charges of killing her. ASI Gautam said that though police had initiated an investigation after arresting the accused, the relatives of the deceased reached police office pressuring police to make the accused admit the charge.
