Girl Held in Bonded Labor Rescued

Police have rescued one 12-year-old girl of Ratanpur in Bara district being held at the home of Rahar Singh Tamang, of Chewati in Thulopakhar2 on September 29.

 

Local Surya Bahadur Tamang said that a team of local village child protection committee, Unnati Inter-Women Network and police.

 

The brother-in-law who had owned money to Rahar Singh’s son Sukuman Tamang and placed the girl at Rahar Man Singh’s home since January to pay back the money, Mithu Devi, one of the rescue team members informed.

 

The girl said that Tamang had brought her promising to send her to school but she was made to work. The girl was brought to Kathmandu by her brother-in-law to weave carpet. The girl says that she has not received any wage.

 

After receiving information about her, the village child protection committee had monitored the condition of the girl after getting tip off and was rescued after she was found to be living a bonded life, District Child Protection Officer Bal Krishna Basnet said.

 

The committee had contacted police in Thulopakhar in the morning of September 13. Rahar Singh was freed after warning, Thulopakhar police station’s Rameshwar Kharel informed. The rescued girl will be kept at the shelter of Mera Sana Pari Child Centre in Talamarang VDC after medical check up, Basnet added.
