A newborn baby was strangled to death immediately after birth on March 21, according to police. 18-year-old Maimsara BK of Kafalkot VDC-7 killed her baby born out of an illicit relationship, police said at a press meet organized on March 26. Maimsara's husband, whom she had married four months ago, was in India when the incident took place. Police said that she killed the baby fearing that the locals would find out about her relationship with another man before her marriage. The locals had reported to police after Maimsara strangled her baby immediately after birth. DSP Bahadur Jung Malla of District Police Office said that police investigation is ongoing into the incident. He said that the accused was arrested on March 22.
