Police personnel of Nepal and India jointly rescued a youth who was allegedly abducted by his neighbor from Nepalgunj of Banke district recently. Muntaj Nau (18) from Ranjha, Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-26 was reportedly kidnapped by his neighbor Munnan Nau alias Munna, on April 8. Muntaj, however, was rescued by a joint team of Nepali and Indian police from the abductor’s rented room in Risia Bazaar of Bahraich district of India on Thursday. Acting on Munnan’s plan, his wife Aasmin Nau had hired the victim’s auto-rickshaw and taken him to Bagia of India. “When I reached Bagia,” the victim told reporters amid a press conference organized by the Banke District Police Office today, “Two persons tied my mouth, eyes, and hands.” “They gave me two samosas and water for a meal that day, but did not give anything after that.” Police informed that the kidnapper repeatedly made calls to the victim’s family and demanded a handsome ransom for his release. The DPO Chief SP Tek Prasad Rai said he called the victim’s father Yakub Nau and demanded Rs 2.5 million for the release. “Then we launched Operation Eagle and carried out the search in coordination with the Indian Police.” At first, police had nabbed Shiva Kumar Pathak, who was mobilized to bargain ransom. Based on his statement, police had raided Munnan’s room, arrested him, and rescued the victim. They also arrested Munnan’s wife Aasmin and Satar Khan besides the mastermind Munnan and Pathak. Police also seized a home-made pistol, two bullets, five mobile sets, and an India-registered motorbike from the suspects.
