Families of disappeared people not confident on getting justice

The victim’s family of disappeared people, who are still living in a hope that their loved ones will come back, said that they do not have confidence in getting justice. They expressed their views in an interaction and rally program organized in Rupendehi jointly by NHRC sub-regional office of Butwal, INSEC, conflict victim society for justice, Advocacy forum including many others. Speaking at the program conflict victim’s relatives Sagar Rijal, Kamala Rijal, Harikala Paudel, Jamuna Kafle including others said that they are not confident in getting justice as the commission itself is not clear on deciding the cases. As per the principle of transitional justice, the commission has the jurisdiction of recommending the action against perpetrators, finding out the truth, justice, and reparation to the victims. Human Rights Officer Kalpana Nepal of NHRC sub-regional office of Butwal said that in Rupendehi district 181 complaints were lodged and stressed on implementation of all recommendations made by the commission. Krishna Prasad Bhandari, chief of Area Administration Office of Butwal said that due to the joint solidarity of conflict victims, the commissions have already formed and should wait for justice with patience. In the program, DSP Mukunda Marasini of Area Police Office and Chairperson Sher Bahadur KC of FNJ had expressed their views on commissions work.
