2016-09-19

Madhes, Parsa, Birgunj

While the government celebrated the first Constitution Day organizing a special function in Kathmandu, the Madhes-based parties here marked the day as ‘Black Day.’ As per the decision made by United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to mark ‘Black Day’ some one week ago, leaders protested by taking out protest rallies on Monday. UDMF leaders and cadres burnt the copies of the Constitution early this morning. A rally that was also taken out from Ghantaghar in the afternoon saw a huge presence of people carrying black flags and banners. The rally converged into a corner assembly after passing through major streets of the city. Addressing the assembly, Madhesi leaders claimed that the Constitution was promulgated forcefully. General Secretary of Nepal Sadhbhawana Party, Shiva Patel said that the major political parties are not serious toward addressing the discontent over the new constitution. Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Parsa Chapter, Pradip Yadav said that the protest will continue unless the government amends the constitution to address their demands. He told Republica Online that a blackout was carried out from 7 to 8 pm .
