Groupps, political parties, social and cultural organizations supporting identity based federalism such as Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, Kirat Rai Yaokkha, Federation of Nepalese ethic and indigenuous, and others padlocked municipal 20 municipal offices including Dharan sub-metropolis on March 30 as a part of their protest program. The demonstrators demanded that the naming of the province should be based on identity and called for scraping of Koshi name given to province 1. The protestors also staged a sit-in and burned placards with Koshi Province written on them.
