Doctors in Manipal teaching hospital are on strike protesting against the alleged discrimination against Nepali doctors at the hospital. The Nepali doctors who are on strike informed that the hospital was discriminating against them by keeping them on contract basis, while making the Indian doctors permanent staffs. The doctors shut-down classes August 23 in the hospital to protest. Medical services at the hospital have however not been affected. The protesting doctors have put forward different demands including, making the Nepali doctors permanent, timely increment of salary and arrangement of substitute leave among others. 55 doctors are on strike. According to one of the protesting doctor Dipak Koirala, Manipal is trying to suppress the movement by using channels of high profile politicians. He further added that discrimination between Indian and Nepali doctors has been on-going since years and the non-promulgation of Bylaws to regulate the operation of doctors yet is itself very unfortunate. Doctors have stated that they shall continue the protest until their demand is met. मणिपालमा शिक्षण अस्पतालमा नेपाली डाक्टरहरुलाई विभेद गरिएको भन्दै चिकित्सकहरु आन्दोलित भएका छन् । सबै भारतीय डाक्टरलाई स्थायी गरेपनी नेपाली डाक्टरलाई करारमा मात्रै राखेर विभेद गरिएको उनिहरुको भनाइ छ । अस्पतालका डाक्टर आन्दोलित हुँदै विगत एक महिना देखी पठनपाठन ठप्प भएको छ । भदौ ७ गते देखी एमबिबिएस र एमडका कक्षा चलेका छैनन् । अस्पतालको सेवा भने रोकिएको छैन । करारमा रहेका चिकित्सकलाई स्थायी बनाउनुपर्ने, समयसापेक्ष तलब ब्रिद्धी गर्नुपर्ने र सट्टा विदाको ब्यबस्था गर्नुपर्ने आन्दोलनरत चिकित्सकहरुको माग छ । आन्दोलनमा ५५ जना चिकित्सकहरु सामेल छन् । आन्दोलनरत चिकित्सक डा दिपक कोइरालाले अस्पतालले वार्ताको लागि कुनै चासो नदेखाएको बताए । उनले मणिपालले प्रशासनले आन्दोलनलाई दबाउन उच्च राजनीतिक व्यक्तित्वसम्म पहुच पुर्याएको दावी गरे । ' भारतीय र नेपाली चिकित्सकबिच वर्षौदेखी विभेद छ', उनले भने, 'अस्पातलले डाक्टर परिचालन गर्ने विनियम नै नबनाउनु दु:खद हो । ' उनले माग पुरा नहुदासम्म आन्दोलन जारी राख्ने बताए ।
