Locals have obstructed the construction of the Mid-hills Highway saying that they were not given compensation for their land and houses that are to be removed while expanding the highway from Dhikure of Nuwakot up to Gangate. The locals have also constituted a struggle committee and protesting the road expansion, demanding compensation for their properties. They have said the road expansion will dislocate more than 100 families rendering them landless and suggested the authorities to expand the road through an alternative route. "The people who have been already been rendered homeless due to the devastating earthquake in April 2015 will become landless with the road expansion as their land will be used for this purpose," said Narayan Adhikari, coordinator of the struggle committee.
